Reading/Studying Tolkien

A mix of Harry Potter and The Kingsman - elite students are hand picked after rigorous testing and trained to become world leaders; the problem is one of them isn't actually that keen on fulfilling his training and has doubts about The Eagle King's Academy. I enjoyed this book and would read more. A little magical, very intriguing and a good insight into people's behaviours. Lots of unanswered questions that hint at more to come. I particularly liked the main character Axel and looking forward to understanding more about his motivations and challenges ahead.

Really enjoyed it and can't believe I have to wait til next Spring for the second book in the series. Highly recommended!!! Really great start to what will hopefully be a fantastic series Left on a knife edge Has been described as a Harry Potter for adults and this is a good comparison. What would happen if you ended up somewhere where you were not really sure you wanted to be? Why can't questions be asked?

Axel is one of the 12 recruits to the Academy from which all leaders are recruited, but what is leadership without humanity, what happened to Sarah and who is watching him? I really enjoyed this book that could also be for YA. If conspiracy theory is your thing than this is definitely for you. Apr 07, C. Well, I thought it was good, but then again, I'm not sure you can call my opinion "reliable". Along with eleven other students he embarks on a quest to become the most influential and powerful leaders in the world.

The academy however isn't as grand as it seems and behind the facade there are secrets, lies and deceit to be discovered. Axel is wise of this and asks too many questions resulting in him becoming caught up in a ga The Academy Making of a Ruler Author: C. Axel is wise of this and asks too many questions resulting in him becoming caught up in a game of power Twelve years earlier, another member was in a situation very similar to Axel's and no one has heard of her since.

Review: When receiving this book for the very talented C. C Mono, I was unsure what to expect due to not reading a book like this before and had doubts to whether this would be a read I would enjoy. After reading I agree with the author when he says this book is hard to categorise but either way it is a cleverly written book.

After reading the blurb I was left feeling intrigued and in slight suspense, I couldn't wait to get stuck in. I appreciated the short and snappy paragraphs in the book. I found this made the story line flow and the book an easy read including when there was jumps in between the past and present.

The jumps were easy and straight forward. When reading the book I found C. C Mono had written some very powerful and inspirational phrases it is evident that he has a wonderful way of words. I found it quite difficult to connect with most of the characters on an emotional level due to the fact that I genuinely didn't know who to trust and towards the end of the book I became very suspicious of all the characters- again a clever move from the author.

Axel, the male lead however was different from the other characters. From the very start I could tell that he was a genuine good guy. He was bold and outspoken but with good morals which included putting others before himself. Unfortunately for him this didn't work in his favour but I was on his side throughout. At times reading the Academy it felt very intense therefore the moments of humour were appreciated and welcomed.

The use of humour lightened the mood of the book and you could tell that C. C Mono had really considered when to use comedy and when to keep the book serious. I found the Academy to be very gripping and at times it was difficult to put the book back down, especially at the end. My anticipation grew as the story built up and all the way through I was expecting something to really kick off but I couldn't put my finger on what that would be. I found though that there was no major event in the book, there was no big climax. There was a huge build up from the beginning but the build up never came, despite this though I was still hooked and left wanting more especially towards the end.

I feel this makes the Academy more special because it took me on a journey where I was engaged throughout and right up until the last page left me feeling in suspense and it certainly left me wanting more. This proves that sometimes a lot of drama isn't required to make a book captivating.

Upon finishing the book it was apparent to me how sneaky the Eagle King's Academy was. I was left feeling quite emotional for one of the characters and in fear for Axel. The book finished and left me wanting more- I knew that this story had only just begun. Thankfully the Academy is the first book in the Eagle King's Academy series and fingers crossed I feel that my anticipated story line climax may appear in the next book. To summarise the Academy is definatley a book that you need to read to really understand and appreciate C.

C Mono's brilliant writing technique. It is a gripping book from start to finish and I feel there is more brilliance to follow in his next book. The academy is a serious book- but I did find in places it reminded me of a very grown up and less magical version of Harry Potter. This is a brilliant start to a new series. Written in a very engaging but simple manner, it has the right amount of story and suspense to keep the reader interested.

The sumptuous descriptions of the academy, along with the technology it has and what it aims to accomplish, set the stage for the story. This leadership academy is so exclusive that no one knows who has been selected for it's leadership course or even where it is situated. Axel is a reluctant student of this place. While the luxury pr This is a brilliant start to a new series.

While the luxury provided to him stuns him, he refuses to conform and retains his earlier doubts and misgivings about the way leaders should behave and the kind of power the graduates from the academy are likely to wield. But no one in the academy likes being questioned, as the disappearance of Sarah Wangai twelve years ago proved. In addition to being a misfitin and struggling with the work load of the academy, Axel is being prodded by some one mysterious to find some answers.

Can he? I will definitely be reading the next one in this series to find out. The Academy This is an unusual book. The Eagles King's Academy selects 12 young people every year to groom them for world leadership. Only the best of the best can enter the Academy. Failure is not only frowned upon but can be fatal! Enter Axel, the first Swede to succeed in gaining entry to the Academy, but all is not as it seems.

Alex is being monitored and manipulated by forces external to the Academy. With a back story relating to a former student, Sara, sprinkled throughout the book, the st The Academy This is an unusual book. With a back story relating to a former student, Sara, sprinkled throughout the book, the story is intriguing from the beginning.

My only gripe is that the book is not a stand alone as the story doesn't really end but leads the reader to have to get the next in the series Not a bad thing and I'm already immersed in book 2 'The Box'. Happy to give this book 4 stars and to recommend it to fellow readers Readers also enjoyed. About C. What is your story? We plan to give students a chance to tell their story. This day is all about giving them a voice and giving them a purpose. They do have a story and we want to hear it By opening our eyes to the story we are living, we are able to gain a greater awareness into the reasons we are the way we are. Our hope is that this day will give us better understanding of each other in many ways that we've been overlooking before.

Not only will we dive deep into what our own stories are, but we will thoroughly examine the story of Jesus and what His story means for our ours. Why even tell a story? What's the point? We want to ask students this hard question and have them really dwell on their own story and why they are telling the story they are telling. It's easy to get caught up in various things in life and begin to make our stories all about things that don't matter, things that are hopeless and worldly.

After having told their stories, we will examine why they are telling that story and if it's the story they really want to be telling. Ultimately, every story should be told with the purpose of glorifying God, but we tend to easily get lost in other things. On this day we will open up the stories of some who walked with Jesus and why they told the story that they did. This day will allow us to focus on an eternal perspective, that life is more than what's right before us. Who is your story about? What's the Greater Story here? As the previous days unfold, we want students to see that maybe the story they are living isn't completely about them.

Their story is a part of a bigger story, beyond what they can ever know. As things happen to them, as they encounter different things, as they continue to live life After discussing what our stories are, why we are even telling a story and who the story is about This day is all about how to live the story we want to be living. This day is all about stepping up and walking boldly and courageously, even if it means turning degrees, even if it means changing the major characters in the story.

On this day we will closely follow others who struggled with how to live out the story they wanted to live, and the ways in which God was faithful to their cries, even in their unfaithfulness. When do we start? Our heart is to be continually encouraging students to start telling a different story with their lives from the moment they arrive at camp, but in ways that bring about lasting change in them. This day is about urgency, about the need for true change because of the ways it can affect the rest of their lives, the rest of their story, the story of so many of others' lives This day is about tangible ways to not hesitate, to walk boldly, and to move swiftly.

He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. As we prepare for summer, we are aware that there is a movement happening all around us-- a movement that is spurring people on toward Christ in a way that many of us have only dreamed of. Our desire for summer is to join in on, and help fuel, the things God is doing in this world, in this nation, in your state, in your church, in your community, and in your youth.

Our desire is to challenge students to equip themselves for the battle at hand, to allow the Lord into their hearts in a way they never have before, and to be radically changed by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We are absolutely convinced that this summer will be unlike any other thus far, believing fully that He who promised is faithful.

Trust in God; trust also in me. Are we ready to let go of our desire to control, to have it all figured out, to completely understand? This day is all about what it means to trust the Lord with our whole lives,no matter where we may be on our journey with Him. For some students this will be the essential message of giving our lives over to Christ for the first time, for others it will mean trusting Him in a way that allows them to walk in freedom and joy.

We want students to walk away from this day with a greater understanding of who Jesus Christ is, why we are able to trust Him, and with the desire to trust Him. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Are we ready to love God, our Father? Are we ready to look at what that truly means and have our lives match up with our words?

As we dive further into God's greatest commandment for our lives-- to love Him and then His people, we long to challenge the students with what this really means. Since part of loving God has to do with obedience, we want to examine more about what it looks like to live lives that are holy and pleasing to Him.

Since we are called to live lives of love, how are we loving those around us daily? Are we merely loving the people that are easy for us to love, or are we loving the unlovely, are we loving the hurting, the broken, the poor, the sinners? We are hoping students will walk away from this day with a greater desire to walk in obedience to the commands of God, recognizing how vital this is to having a relationship with Him Are we ready to fight for those who are oppressed, for those who are hungry, or in need?

We want this day to get students into a different mindset-- one that is completely external as we look into what others around them are going through. Possibly something they have never experienced before. Our hope is to bring them into a realistic concept of the world around them and how they can be a part of making a difference, how they can fight for others who aren't as fortunate as them. Not only do we want them to see these truths, but we also want to give them tools and ideas to go out into the world and do hard things that will change eternity. Are we ready to be still, to fall on our faces before the Lord and go to Him in prayer?

Many times we are eager for action, we are eager to see results, we are eager to move We want to show students that prayer is the most powerful thing that they can do, we want to unveil the importance of it, we want to give them tools and ideas for how to seek God's face. On this particular day we want to encourage them that sometimes the action they need to take is to be still before the Lord, to intercede for others, to build a relationship with God, their reator.

As we delve further into the different elements of prayer, our hope is that they will walkaway from this day knowing more about how to live a life of prayer and thanksgiving, and what prayer actually is. The time is now. We are sending each student back into their homes, their communities, your churches Are they willing to do the hard things to be a part of life change in others' lives?

We send students off with one final challenge: are you ready to change? After all they have learned and experienced for the week-- what will be different when they go home? Through devoted counselors and life changing experiences, your students will be engaged in a week-long theme that will challenge them and encourage them in their walk with the Lord.

This year's theme is "hydrate. For elaboration on the daily themes within the week long theme, you will find a brief description below. As we challenge students to look at the state of their own thirst, we will present them with the truth of the Living Water and how Jesus Christ is the only one that can every truly fulfil that thirst. We hope that this Truth will be accepted by all and that, in this acceptance, lives would be transformed for eternity as we drink from the water that gives us eternal life.

We want your students to recognize the burdens and sin in their lives, we want them to recognize that they cannot always fix them or change them - but that they can give them over to the Lord.

We want them to know that we believe in a Father who heals, a Father who can take our pain, a Father who absolutely cleanses us - and we want to see them place their hope solely in Him. We desire for students to truly believe how much God loves them, and how placing such an importance on materialistic things can only hinder them and their walk with Him. We want students to really examine the artificial things in their lives that they seek after, the artificial people that they have become, in order to surrender it all to fully live for a God who so jealously wants their whole hearts and is the only thing that can truly satisfy.

On this day, we hope to give students depth to their faith, to challenge them and encourage them as they enter the world after camp.
